Most of Sandi’s family also lives in Chatham County, home of Southern Supreme Fruitcake. Sandi has always loved church, people, and music. She enjoys academics and sports, and has played first base on a co-ed softball team. She is apt to have a camera in her hand, and may be found doing a line dance or the two-step.

After graduating from Chatham Central High School, she attended Campbell University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in Christian Ministry with a specialization in music, while excelling in service to a number of groups on campus. She went on to attend the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, studying Pastoral Care and Counseling. She served as a volunteer missionary to Ivory Coast, West Africa for six months with the International Mission Board. Sandi has served several churches as Ministers of Music and Youth, as Worship Leader, and even as a supply musician/preacher. Since 2000, Sandi has served in the optometry industry. She says that it is important and meaningful to have “one foot in the church” and “one in the marketplace”. On this mission field, Sandi is constantly challenged to keep faith real and relevant.

Since Sandi came to Antioch as Minister of Music and as Worship Leader, our family of faith has been blessed by the love for God she expresses through music and through witnessing, and through her faithful service.[/vc_employee]

David Atwater” position=”Pastor”]Rev. Jefferson David (Dave) Atwater became Antioch’s pastor in March 2006 following a thirty-year career as a Navy chaplain. He knows both our church and community well, having grown up on a family farm outside Carrboro, attended Antioch throughout his youth, and graduated from Chapel Hill High School. His professional education includes studies at Mars Hill College, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Salve Regina College. Pastor Atwater served two churches in North Carolina, followed by an active-duty military experience with the Navy and Marine Corps. David and his wife Judy have two children and four grandchildren.

At Antioch, Pastor Atwater says that his primary interest is in helping each person, no matter what their age or interests, find the special role that God intends for them as modern day disciples, and helping to equip them to carry our Jesus’ Great Commission. He also wants to strengthen Antioch’s role as an inter-generational church with a special sense of concern for family and community. We need each other, he says. And it’s no accident that the Bible tells us that God ‘sets the solitary in families.’ Working together, we can make a real difference in our little part of the world. Not incidentally, that’s also the best way to find real happiness and fulfillment.

We are blessed by God to have Pastor Dave at our helm, being challenged by the words given to him by God to grow in understanding, discipleship and love for Christ and everyone in God’s creation.[/vc_employee]

Luke has been away from Antioch for several years, but knows our church and youth program well, having grown up here prior to beginning his theological training. Luke has been blessed with the opportunity to serve in several churches and ministries in recent years, which have helped him to grow in his relationship with God. During this time, he recognized a passion for youth ministry, and with God’s strength and leading, has returned to Antioch Baptist Church with the desire to bless and build up the young men and women of God as their minister.

He and his fiancee, Miranda, plan to be married in September of 2022 and serve the church together. His greatest love is God, and he desires to continue growing in God’s truth and love, to make the Gospel known to everyone he meets, and to bring all glory ultimately to God.[/vc_employee]

She served 20 of those years in a Savings and Loan environment where she developed her model for customer service, respect and friendship. A group of eight ladies from the original Savings and Loan have a monthly “HSB Girls Night Out,” and others she still talks with on a regular basis. “We to this day call each other family.”

Being an Orange County native, Denise had to “travel far and wide” to find her husband, having spent the first 32 years of her life in the very tip of northeastern Orange County and then being introduced to the little corner of the world called White Cross located in the most southwestern area of Orange County. She has been blessed to call our community home for 23 years, living with her soul mate, while gaining two daughters, and then two sons-in-law followed by two grandchildren. Denise and Strowd, along with their rescue dog Zoey, enjoy spending time at the North Carolina coast surf fishing. When a little “retail therapy” is needed, you will most likely find her in a thrift shop or antique store browsing for anything vintage.

Denise feels that God has led her to Antioch, and we agree! Denise has been so faithful and hard-working, supporting our church and all her members, and we are blessed to have her in our church family.[/vc_employee]

Follow His Word

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.  If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
Romans 12: 6-8
